The Mayo Family Winery Story

Mayo Family Winery was founded in 1990 by Henry & Diane Mayo, and their son Jeffrey. Upon retiring from their day-to-day Real Estate Business, Henry & Diane purchased what would become our 10-Acre Estate Vineyard, the Laurel Hill Vineyard. Their intent was to produce exceptional Chardonnay grapes, and sell to local wineries; passion prevailed and led them to produce their own wine, under their own label. In 1994, the Mayo's released their first vintage of Estate-Grown Chardonnay, then in 1997 purchased the Ricci Vineyard in the Russian River Valley with the goal of producing exceptional Old Vine Zinfandel. During that time, they converted the bottom floor of their Real Estate office in Kenwood into a Co-Op Tasting Room called "The Family Wineries", which is now The Mayo Family Winery Reserve Room. In 2001, they added 3 acres onto their Estate Vineyard to produce Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir, and around that time also completed construction on their Main Tasting Room in Glen Ellen.

The Mayo Family Winery has always focused on producing small batch Single Vineyard wines, with the goal of capturing the best expression of each varietal from the best local Vineyards. Today, the Mayo Family Winery annually produces on average 5000 cases or less, across multiple different varietals, crafted exclusively for our Tasting Rooms and our Wine Club Members. Our Family-Friendly atmosphere, paired with our Award-Winning Wines and Unique Tasting Experiences allow us to share our passion with Friends, Family, and Wine Club Members from all over the world. We invite you to join us in sharing an experience to enjoy and remember; when you are here, you are part of the Family!
